One Mississippian woke up a whole lot richer on Thursday.
The Mississippi Lottery Corporation announced that the record $1.2 million jackpot for the Mississippi Match 5 was won during Wednesday night’s drawing. It was the largest grand prize in the game’s history, recently exceeding the seven-digit mark for the first time since the game debuted in April 2021.
“This is an incredible win for one of our players and a proud moment for the Mississippi Lottery,” MLC President Jeff Hewitt said. “To see the Match 5 jackpot grow to this level and then be hit is a true testament to the excitement this game brings.”
The winning ticket was purchased in Columbus at 69 Mart and was a perfect match to the Wednesday numbers of 1-3-11-21-34. This was the first time the Mississippi Match 5 had been won since April 12 when the jackpot was at $141,000.
The winner of the $1.2 million jackpot has 180 days to claim the prize.
Mississippi Match 5 will be back in action on Thursday night with the top prize reset to $50,000. The game increases every day until there’s a winner. Tickets are $2, and an optional $1 multiplier feature is available to boost non-jackpot prizes.
