Laurel woman wanted for murder outside convenience store arrested

A woman wanted for a murder outside a Laurel convenience store has been taken into custody.

Nicole Weems, 36, was arrested on Friday afternoon on Poplar Drive at King Street after law enforcement put out a BOLO for her. According to the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, Weems was booked into the Jones County Jail at 4:53 p.m. on one count of murder.

Weems is said to have shot a man outside the Scott and Pops Store on Ellisville Boulevard around 11:40 p.m. on Thursday. She and Terry Merrill, 54, are said to have gotten into an altercation inside the store before gunfire erupted when the two left.

Merrill was transferred to the South Central Medical Center, where he succumbed to a gunshot wound to the chest.

Later Friday night, a second person was arrested in connection to the incident. Drexem Brown, 59, was charged with accessory after the fact booked at 6:30 p.m.
