With heavy rainfall expected to continue through Friday, several locations across south Mississippi are distributing sandbags to help residents prepare for possible flooding.
According to local emergency management offices, some areas could receive six inches of rain or more over the coming days, increasing the risk of flash flooding and rising water.
Distribution sites could be self-serve, meaning residents should bring their own shovels to fill sandbags. Sandbags can be used to help protect homes and property by creating barriers that prevent or reduce flood damage, divert flowing water and debris, and weigh down structures during high winds.
