Magnitude 2.5 earthquake strikes in northeast Mississippi

If you were in northeast Mississippi for the holidays and felt the ground shake, you weren’t going crazy.

The United States Geological Survey has confirmed a magnitude 2.5 earthquake struck approximately 3.1 miles from Booneville on Saturday.

The earthquake hit at 4:49 p.m. CT at a depth of 11.8 kilometers. There have been no reports of damage or injury resulting from the quake. Only 18 people reported feeling the quake on the USGS website.

Saturday’s quake was the largest of the four reported in Mississippi so far during the 2022 calendar year. More information on this earthquake can be found here.
