A man officials believe is a drug dealer was arrested upon landing at the Jackson airport.
According to a Wednesday press release from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, narcotics investigators with RCSD and officers with the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority received word that a passenger on an inbound flight was carrying a large amount of drugs in his luggage.
The plane in which Monroe Milton III was traveling on from an undisclosed location landed at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport on Tuesday at 12:13 p.m. When Milton exited the aircraft, federal and local law enforcement officers were waiting for him.
Through a K-9 sweep, officers were alerted by the dogs of two bags that belonged to Milton.
“After Milton was informed of the K-9 alert on his luggage, he admitted to officials that there was approximately one pound of mushrooms in his luggage. At that time, Milton was detained and a search of his bags was conducted,” the press release noted.
During the search of Milton’s bags, multiple items were recovered including drug paraphernalia, jars of hemp and marijuana products totaling 68 grams, and a zip-tied bag containing 493 grams of Psilocybin mushrooms.
Milton was arrested and charged with trafficking a controlled substance. He’s being held at the Rankin County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
