The Columbus Police Department is investigating the death of a man after he was found hanging between two billboards on Highway 45.

Chief Joseph Daughtry stated that officers responded to the area around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday after receiving reports of the man in the 2400 block of Highway 45 south of Bluecutt Road and Holly Hills Road.

Police were able to retrieve the man’s body shortly after by using a CFR ladder truck.

Officials have since released that they believe the death to be a suicide and that the man had been seen walking in the area prior to the incident.

Lowndes County Corner Greg Merchant has not released the identity of the man at this time, as the investigation is ongoing.

Daughtry is asking the public to be respectful of the crime scene and the individual’s family throughout the investigation process.
