A correctional officer at the Marion County Regional Correctional Facility has been arrested for allegedly smuggling contraband into the prison.
The arrest of Marcy Parker, 34, came after an inmate was found in possession of an illegal cell phone inside the prison, per the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators said Parker was dismissed from her position after the crime came to light.
Parker, of Columbia, was charged with one count of introduction of contraband and one count of conspiracy. She bonded out at $25,000.
Investigators believe they have evidence of other contraband being smuggled into the facility as the investigation continues. More arrests are expected to be made.
