The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving Capitol Police that occurred in the area of Pearl Street and President Street in Jackson.
According to the Department of Public Safety, an officer was patrolling the area when he was approached by a security guard who reported a subject carrying a weapon around businesses on State Street. The officer located the subject, who fled on foot. During the ensuing pursuit, the subject discharged his weapon at the officer, and the officer returned fire, striking the subject, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
None of the law enforcement officers involved sustained any serious injuries.
MBI is currently assessing the incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office. This information is preliminary and subject to change.
