MBI manhunt continues after death of police officer

The manhunt for 31-year-old Dante Marquez Bender is still underway after the death of a Meridian police officer and an unidentified woman.

On Thursday afternoon, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation announced the search for Bender after an officer-involved shooting that took place on 51st Avenue in the Meridian city limits.

The fallen officer, Tuscaloosa native Kennis Croom, was with the Meridian Police Department for eight months before being shot while responding to a domestic situation.

Bender has been described as a 299-pound male standing around 5′11″ with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen driving a 2004 black Nissan Armada with a tag reading “IMANI” at 2408 51st Ave. in Meridian around 5:36 p.m.
