Celebrate an open house ribbon cutting Tuesday, September 10th!

From the MCEC website:
With the opening of the State Street center in the heart of Mississippi’s capital city, the Mississippi Community Education Center will serve as an avenue to provide easy access to needed resources for Mississippians. The center includes a simulated financial center, a motherhood room, a community library with books for educational and entertainment purposes, a clothing boutique with free clothes in a simulated retail environment, a farmer’s market/grocery store with access to receive healthy foods and important information about nutrition. The center also includes a job readiness career and classrooms, and a computer lab to receive training on existing programs. The purpose of the MCEC’s Families First State Street Center is to provide a stigma-free charitable environment to offer compassionate assistance for those in need and to create stability for families and the surrounding communities.

The Mississippi Community Education Center’s mission is to work with communities to provide opportunities for academic, economic, and social success.

The MCEC meets the vital and diverse needs of Mississippians while creating stability and opportunities for new beginnings and second chances. MCEC’s Families First programs stimulate employment through job readiness, support family financial stability, reduce recidivism through reentry programs, promote early childhood education and literacy, increase graduation rates, support positive youth development, decrease teen pregnancy rates, encourage positive father involvement, and provide educational and parenting skills development classes.
