For those in the seafood industry or who own seafood restaurants, the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is offering a free food safety certification course on Tuesday, July 7.
The course will be held at the Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum in Biloxi from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with additional time allotted for testing from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The training will be taught by ServSafe instructor Jessica Rankin and is free for Mississippi residents involved in the seafood industry. Participants must present a valid ID on the day of the class.
ServSafe is a food safety training and certification program developed by the National Restaurant Association. The course provides education on safe food handling practices designed to help prevent foodborne illnesses and covers topics including food storage, preparation, sanitation, and employee hygiene.
Participants who complete the training and pass the certification exam will receive the certification, which is required for Mississippi businesses that prepare, hold, transport, or serve food.
Space is limited to the first 25 registrants, and advance registration is encouraged. Interested participants can register online.
The ServSafe workshop is funded through the Mississippi Tidelands Trust Fund Program.
