Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Harrison County campus is now giving the public an opportunity to experience music legends through a different medium this fall.
The campus Fine Art Gallery is hosting “Crossed Roads: From Music to Art,” an exhibition by Gulfport artist Becci Rae Edwards featuring more than 40 colorful portraits of icons, including Freddie Mercury, Dolly Parton, Jimi Hendrix, and The Notorious B.I.G. The show will run from now until October 24th.
A special “jam session” reception will be held Oct. 23 from 12:20 to 1:20 p.m. with live performances by the MGCCC concert choir and C Side vocalists, a Contemporary A Cappella ensemble, presenting selections inspired by the artwork.
Edwards, a Jackson native, said her love of music shaped her artistic journey, from attending Elvis Presley’s 1977 memorial service to painting Grammy-themed portraits after her battle with breast cancer.

“Though I’m not musically inclined, the rhythms became part of my soul,” Edwards said. “I paint it. I feel it. From rock to rap to country, and everything in between.”
Edwards operates Crescent Blues Art Company in Bay St. Louis and is also represented in New Orleans through galleries, murals, and event posters.
The free exhibition is open to the public at the MGCCC Fine Art Gallery in Gulfport. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
