A shortage of officials has forced the Mississippi High School Activities Association to alter the football schedule for the final weeks of the regular season.

Announced by Executive Director Rickey Neaves, the MHSAA adopted the new schedule that will move the regular season finale for 2A, 3A, and 4A up by one day to Thursday, October 28th. The remaining classifications—1A, 5A, 6A—will play their regularly scheduled region games on the 29th.

The following week, 1A, 5A, and 6A teams will play their final regular season games on Thursday, November 4th while 2A, 3A, and 4A will begin their playoffs on Friday, November 5th.

Neaves, in a video posted to the MHSAA website, explains that the new policy allows for teams to get an extra day of rest before the playoffs and ensures that all playoff games remain on Friday nights.
