Nearly two months after becoming the first college in Mississippi to offer women’s flag football, Millsaps has announced Felicia Ellis as the team’s coach.
Ellis joins the Majors’ athletics department after spending four years as general manager of the Mississippi Lady Panthers, a local tackle football team competing in the Women’s National Football Conference. Joining the team in the spring of 2022, she helped the Lady Panthers claim the 2024 IX CUP Championship trophy as the conference’s winners.
“We could not be more excited to have Coach Ellis leading the way as we introduce women’s flag football at Millsaps,” Millsaps athletic director Justin LeBlanc said. “This program represents a new and meaningful opportunity for female student-athletes, and Coach Ellis is the right person to set the tone for success, inclusion, and excellence from day one.”
While working with the Lady Panthers, Ellis oversaw team operations. She also managed player recruitment. Ellis cultivated relationships with existing sponsors and secured new partnerships while acting as a liaison between players and ownership.
The Millsaps women’s flag football program launches as a club sport in spring 2026, building momentum as it cruises into becoming the 19th varsity-sponsored sport at the Jackson college in the spring of 2027. The team will compete in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Millsaps and its counterparts will compete for the first conference championship in the spring of 2027.
