As Russian attacks on Ukraine continue, gas prices in Mississippi are rising.

The current average per gallon price for regular gasoline in Mississippi is $3.26. One week ago that number was at $3.20 while one month ago, it was at $2.99. The current national average is $3.61.

As of Monday morning, the cheapest gas in Mississippi was $2.48 per gallon. The most expensive was $3.54 per gallon.

Last week when he announced sanctions against Russia, President Joe Biden encouraged American oil and gas companies not to utilize this moment to raise fuel prices.

“American oil and gas companies should not exploit this moment,” he said. “I’ll do everything in my power to limit the pain the American people are feeling at the gas pump.”

According to AAA, as the conflict escalates, the oil markets will likely respond by continuing to increase the price of crude oil to reflect more risk of disruption to tight global oil supplies.

Russia is the world’s second-largest producer of natural gas and the third-largest producer of petroleum and wheat.
