Two lottery players in Mississippi are now millionaires after winning $2 million apiece on back-to-back nights.
On Tuesday, a Mega Millions ticket purchased at Pilot Travel Center in Moss Point matched all five white balls to win $1 million but was doubled through the purchase of the Megaplier option. It marked the largest Mega Millions win in Mississippi since April.
Lightning struck again on Wednesday when a Powerball ticket bought at Mike’s Food & Gas in Coldwater matched all five white balls for a $1 million prize. Because the player opted into the Power Play option, winnings were doubled to make for another $2 million win.
While Mississippians were able to land big wins in the national games, the overall jackpots continue to grow in anticipation of hopeful weekend winners. The Powerball jackpot nears $1 billion heading into Saturday’s drawing, while Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot is at an estimated $277 million but still growing with every ticket purchased.
“With jackpots soaring and Mississippi players cashing in big, there’s no better time to purchase lottery tickets,” the Mississippi Lottery Corporation noted in a press release.
On a smaller yet still life-changing scale, the Mississippi Match 5 jackpot of $60,000 was won by a player in New Albany on Wednesday. The ticket was purchased at Tony’s Quick Mart.
The MLC also announced a new scratch-off game series hitting shelves statewide just in time for Labor Day weekend. The Loaded Family arrives in stories on Friday and gives players a chance to spend $2, $5, or $10 on tickets loaded with $100, $500, and $2,000 prizes.
