Mississippi nearing 1 million covid cases three years after first positive case

It’s been three years since COVID-19 was discovered in Mississippi, with the first case being confirmed in Forrest County on March 11, 2020.

Since then, the state has amassed a total of 991,967 recorded cases and 13,385 deaths induced by the virus. In the MSDH’s latest weekly report, 1,211 new cases were recorded from March 7-March 13. Additionally, 15 more deaths were confirmed.

Mississippi is currently averaging 211 cases per day, which is a 41 percent decrease from two weeks ago, as 53 percent of the state’s population is fully vaccinated.
