Elected officials from Mississippi are weighing in on the U.S. military’s strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites amid the Middle Eastern nation’s ongoing conflict with Israel.

President Donald Trump, after previously mulling U.S. involvement in the conflict, addressed the American public on Saturday night to confirm that precision strikes had been carried out by B-2 stealth bombers on the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan facilities to cripple Iran’s ability to create a nuclear weapon.

“Our objective was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity [and] a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world’s number one state sponsor of terror. Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success,” the president stated, before levying a threat to Iran’s leadership.

“Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated. Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace. If they do not, future attacks will be far greater and a lot easier.”

Trump further noted that he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu worked “as a team” on this operation and lauded the Israeli military for the job it’s done in the dispute with Iran. The commander-in-chief then commended the U.S. military, specifically the pilots of the bombers, for their efforts in the strikes. However, the president made it clear that he hopes strikes like Saturday’s will no longer be necessary.

“I want to congratulate the great American patriots who flew those magnificent machines tonight, and all of the United States military on an operation the likes of which the world has not seen in many, many decades. Hopefully, we will no longer need their services in this capacity,” the president said.

On the other side, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, after confirming that the strikes took place, ensured that its work was far from over, sparking concerns that peace is nowhere near the horizon.

“The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran assures the great Iranian nation that despite the evil conspiracies of its enemies, with the efforts of thousands of its revolutionary and motivated scientists and experts, it will not allow the development of this national industry, which is the result of the blood of nuclear martyrs, to be stopped,” an official statement from the organization reads.

Stateside, some prominent Democratic officials in Congress have suggested impeaching Trump over Saturday’s attack on Iran. U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) referred to the president’s decision to order bombs without legislative approval as a “grave violation” of the Constitution and congressional war powers.

Mississippi-based U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson joined his Democratic colleague in condemning the strikes. Thompson, who represents the state’s second congressional district, called Saturday’s bombings an “illegal act of war,” while accusing President Trump of undermining his constitutional oath.

“Donald Trump launched strikes on Iran without Congressional approval. I condemn this illegal act of war. This is something very serious that puts U.S. troops at risk and undermines our Constitution,” the congressman wrote on social media. “We must stand against nuclear threats and dictators.”

Meanwhile, other federal and statewide officials from Mississippi have endorsed the president’s actions. Here’s a rundown of what elected leaders from the Magnolia State are saying:

Gov. Tate Reeves

Pray for wisdom for @POTUS, strength for our men and women in uniform, and safety for people around the globe!

Iran is a known sponsor of terrorism around the world. And they must never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon! @realDonaldTrump has made that clear, and by doing…

U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker

Our commander-in-chief has made a deliberate —and correct— decision to eliminate the existential threat posed by the Iranian regime. We now have very serious choices ahead to provide security for our citizens and our allies and stability for the middle-east. Well-done to our…

Secretary of State Michael Watson

Join me in prayer for our courageous men and women as they serve in harms way. This was an unavoidable outcome and I’m thankful for swift and decisive actions taken by Pres. @realDonaldTrump and the greatest military in the world. These moments leave little room for hesitation…

Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson

Thank you Mr. President for taking decisive action to end the Iranian nuclear threat to the Middle East and to the world. Thank you to our amazing U.S. military. God bless you Mr. President, God bless Israel and God bless the U.S.A. We join together and pray for peace. https://t.co/FhoAqrRYqo
