Mississippi’s legal arm is teaming up with a nationally recognized nonprofit to provide residents with an app aimed at tackling human trafficking.
Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced on Monday that her office is partnering with Safe House Project to launch “Simply Report,” a program allowing citizens to anonymously report suspected human trafficking in the Magnolia State. The Simply Report app provides a streamlined tool for users to recognize and report indicators of trafficking directly to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.
Through a grant from Attorney General Alliance, state investigators will have access to a specialized law enforcement platform where they can view tips from Mississippians and assess them through an AI-powered behavioral matrix. This helps officials prioritize communications and target their manpower and resources.
“Everyday Mississippians can be extraordinary heroes for a victim of trafficking; they just need to know what to look for and how to report what they see,” Fitch said. “I am excited to partner with Safe House Project to bring Simply Report to Mississippi. It gives Mississippi citizens an easy tool to report human trafficking directly to the investigative team in my office.”
In 2021, Fitch launched the “Be The Solution” campaign, a public education and awareness campaign to empower residents to help rid the state of human trafficking. The attorney general’s office has trained over 550 officers from across Mississippi in anti-trafficking investigative techniques.
Per reports, the attorney general’s human trafficking team has led 58 multi-jurisdictional operations that have led to the rescue of 341 victims and 99 arrests, along with numerous leads in the effort to disrupt and stop trafficking operations in Mississippi.
Mississippi is the first state to officially adopt Simply Report as its chief human trafficking reporting tool.
