Mississippi State Can’t Avoid the Sweep, Falls to Arkansas 6-4

Mississippi State’s baseball rivalry with Arkansas has an odd coincidence about it, the winning team has swept the last five series. Arkansas once again broke out the brooms, taking the finale on Sunday 6-4 over the home side.

State fell behind in the fourth inning, starting with Matt Goodheart’s third home run of the weekend, a solo shot to break the ice. Bulldog starter Jackson Fristoe would give up four more, aided by a Kamren James error that allowed two Razorbacks to score. State would get on the board in the bottom half of the frame, with a fielder’s choice and a Brad Cumbest RBI single narrowing the margin to 5-2.

Arkansas would add one more run in the top of the sixth, as Landon Sims walked in a run from a baserunner he inherited. State would try to rally in the the bottom half, with Luke Hancock and Logan Tanner hitting back to back solo bombs to set the final margin. The Bulldogs would get the lead run to the plate in the eighth inning, and had the leadoff man on in the ninth, but were unable to get anything across.

State falls to 17-7, 2-4 in the SEC. The Bulldogs will be back in action Tuesday against Mississippi Valley State, with first pitch set for 6:30 PM.
