The Mississippi State Fair will host Disability Friendly Day on Tuesday at the fairgrounds in Jackson, offering special activities for individuals with disabilities and their families.
Organized by Joni and Friends, a Christian nonprofit, the event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will feature free admission, sensory tents, wheelchair-accessible activities, inclusive entertainment, petting zoos, equestrian encounters, and a resource carnival with games designed for everyone.
From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., select rides will be available for individuals with disabilities.
Joni Eareckson Tada, who became a quadriplegic at age 17 following a car crash, founded Joni and Friends to support individuals with disabilities and their families through resources, services, and religion. Tada said that the event will “offer a disability-friendly experience that allows everyone to enjoy the fair.”
Volunteer buddies will be paired with registered families to provide assistance and support throughout the event.
Physical tickets will not be issued. Attendees can check in at the registration table upon arrival. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged, but registration will also be available at the gate.
