Mississippi State Grabs the Series With a 3-2 Comeback Win Over Kentucky

Mississippi State overcame a slow start at the plate, and took advantage of another great pitching night to take the series over Kentucky Friday night at Dudy Noble Field.

State was held hitless through the first three, and didn’t get on the board until the sixth, when a Tanner Allen single scored Brayland Skinner, followed by a Luke Hancock sac fly to tie the game at 2 apiece. State would see a repeat in the eighth, with Hancock’s fly ball bringing home Jordan for a second time, Hancock’s fourth RBI sacrifice fly of the weekend.

The Bulldogs got a strong start from Will Bednar, who struck out 10 over 6 innings, only giving up two runs on a 2 RBI blast from Kentucky’s TJ Collett. Cam Tullar and Landon Sims pitched three scoreless innings of relief, with Sims getting out of another defensive miscue in the ninth thanks to a 1-6-3 double play to close the game.

State moves to 19-7 on the year, 4-4 in the SEC. The Bulldogs will look to get the sweep tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 2 PM at Dudy Noble Field. State will put Jackson Fristoe on the mound for the second time in conference play.
