Mississippi State & Southern Miss learn bowl destinations

Bowl season is officially upon us, and earlier today, Mississippi State and Southern Miss learned where they’re headed and who they’ll be facing.

Mississippi State:

For the Bulldogs, they became bowl eligible with their thrilling Egg Bowl victory over Ole Miss, and they’ll face Louisville in the Music City Bowl in Nashville. The game will kick off at 3 p.m. on December 30th at Nissan Stadium, the home of the Tennessee Titans.

After a 6-6 regular season, the Bulldogs will attempt to pick up their first postseason win under Joe Moorhead after dropping the Outback Bowl to Iowa last season. Mississippi State will be without DB Cameron Dantzler, who will skip the bowl game after declaring for the NFL Draft on Friday.

Louisville finished the 2019 regular season with an overall record of 7-5 (5-3 in the ACC).

This is a rematch of the 2017 TaxSlayer Bowl, a game that the Bulldogs won 31-27. In the win, the Bulldog defense picked off Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson 4 times while Keytaon Thompson, filling in for an injured Nick Fitzgerald, rushed for nearly 150 yards and 3 TDs.

Southern Miss:

The Golden Eagles (7-5) will travel to Fort Worth, Texas for the Armed Forces Bowl against Tulane (6-6) on January 4, 2020 with kickoff set for 10:30 a.m at Amon G. Carter Stadium on the TCU campus.

This will be the first meeting between USM and Tulane since 2010, but the two programs know each other well. The Golden Eagles hold a 23-7 overall mark in the series over the Green Wave. Southern Miss has won the last six meetings between the two teams.
