Mississippi State needed a bounce back win on Sunday after dropping Game Two to Kent State. The Bulldogs got that and much more, with four hurlers combining for a no-hitter, and State’s bats racking up 16 hits in a 13-0 rubber game victory.

After getting a combined 4.2 innings from their Friday and Saturday night starters, State was desperate to get some innings from Jackson Fristoe. The freshman delivered by retiring all 18 batters he faced, with 8 strikeouts. It was not until the seventh that a Golden Flash got on base, with that coming via an error. State’s Landon Sims, Mikey Tepper, and Cameron Tuller pitch the final three innings, only allowing two walks the rest of the way for the first no-hitter at Mississippi State since Gene Morgan’s gem in 1985.

While the Bulldog pitchers were dealing, the maroon and white batters were raking. State scored in 6 of the 8 innings they batted in, putting the Kent State arms through the ringer. Kam James led the attack, going 3 for 4 with 5 RBI, including a home run. He was one of four Bulldogs with multiple hits on the day, and 11 total batters with a hit.

As in any no hitter, there were several defensive plays to save the game. Drew McGowan had a diving catch to rob extra bases in the fourth inning, Brandon Pimentel snagged a smashed ball to save a double in the eighth, and the final out was a running over the shoulder catch by Logan Forsythe. Forsythe made the most of his Bulldog debut, adding two hits to go with that catch.

State moves to 8-3 on the season, they’ll be back in action Tuesday night against Grambling, first pitch is set for 6 PM.
