Mississippi State’s new head baseball coach will be introduced to the public on Thursday night.
Brian O’Connor, who comes to Mississippi State by way of the University of Virginia, was announced Sunday as the new skipper in Starkville. He led the Cavaliers to 18 regionals across 22 seasons, including seven College World Series appearances and a national title in 2015.
To make O’Connor feel at home and give him his first taste of Dudy Noble Field – widely considered one of, if not the best, environments in college baseball – a public celebration will be held at the ballpark on Thursday at 7 p.m. Gates open to Bulldog fans at 5:30 p.m.
The event is free to the public with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be plenty of concessions and O’Connor gear available for purchase.
The Left Field Lounge will be open to rig owners, with grilling permitted in accordance with normal stadium policies.
Fans unable to attend can stream the welcome event on SEC Network+. Shortly after the on-field celebration, a media press conference will be held with O’Connor and athletic director Zac Selmon. It will also be streamed.
