Mississippi State’s Bats Go Silent in 8-2 Game 1 Loss to Arkansas

Mississippi State knew the path to victory this season would be outstanding pitching and timely hitting. On Friday night, the Bulldogs had neither, as Arkansas blasted three solo home runs off starter Christian MacLeod, and State only had two hits before the ninth inning, dropping an 8-2 decision to the Razorbacks on Friday night at Dudy Noble Field.

State fell behind the Razorbacks early, as Matt Goodheart, Cayden Wallace, and Christian Franklin all circled the bases in the first inning. Franklin would add another blast in the fourth inning to stretch the Arkansas lead to 4-0. MacLeod would then load the bases with no outs, giving up a fifth run on a sac fly. State’s bullpen allowed runs in the seventh and ninth innings to lead to the final margin.

At the plate, State was equally ineffective, going hitless through the first four innings before a seeing eye single from Lane Forsythe found its way into right field. That would lead to MSU’s first run of the game on a Rowdey Jordan single, but that would be all for State until the ninth inning, where the Bulldogs were able to grab one more run before pinch hitter Kyte McDonald struck out to end the game.

State falls to 17-5, 2-2 in the SEC on the season. Will Bednar will draw the start as the Bulldogs look to even the series, first pitch is scheduled for 2 PM.
