Mississippi students in grades 3-12 can celebrate America’s 250th anniversary by participating in America’s field trip contest. By submitting an essay, artwork, or poem answering the question, “What does America mean to you?” students may have a chance to win prizes that include:
- First-place winners will embark on a field trip to renowned sites such as the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio, the National Archives in Washington, D.C., and more.
- Second-place winners will receive a $500 cash prize.
- Teachers of the highest-scoring student entries in each grade category will be awarded $1,000.
“America250 Mississippi is excited for Mississippi students to show their creativity and discover their patriotism through the America’s Field Trip contest,” First Lady Elee Reeves said. “My hope is that our students will engage in this incredible opportunity to share their appreciation for our country and find further inspiration in building a bright future.”
America250 Mississippi serves as the state commission responsible for coordinating and fostering partnerships in commemoration of the country’s 250th anniversary. The national America250 initiative is designed to deepen students’ understanding of shared history and national pride.
