Parents across the Magnolia State will get a break on their back-to-school shopping this weekend.

Mississippi’s tax-free weekend begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 28, and wraps up at midnight on Saturday, July 29. During that timeframe, shoppers won’t be required to pay the usual 7 percent sales tax on eligible items like clothing, shoes, and school supplies, as long as each item is under $100.00.

For example, if you buy two shirts at $50 each, a pair of slacks for $75, and a pair of shoes for $110.00, no sales tax would be charged on the two shirts and the pair of slacks, even though the combined cost exceeds the $100.00 threshold. You would have to pay sales tax on the shoes since they exceed the set, $100 per item limit.

Even if you’re not in the mood to get out and about, you can still save as Mississippi’s 2023 tax-free weekend includes all online purchases of eligible items under $100.

A full list of eligible and non-eligible items can be found below.
