A Mississippi lottery player was just one number away from winning the record $1.73 billion Powerball jackpot on Wednesday night.

The player, whose name has not been released, had four of five white balls and the red Powerball correct but narrowly missed out on the grand prize. Even though the heartbreaking moment was probably a tough pill to swallow, the player did walk away with a check for $50,000.

Mississippi winners from the Oct. 11 Powerball drawing:

  • $50,000 – 1
  • $100 – 26
  • $7 – 1,162
  • $4 – 14,350

The winning numbers were 22, 24, 40, 52, 54, and the Powerball 10. A California player ended up winning the $1.73 billion grand prize after buying a ticket at Midway Market & Liquor in Frazier Park.
