Monroe County Deputy struck, killed by vehicle Saturday night

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department is mourning the loss of one of their own after a deputy was struck by a vehicle and killed Saturday night.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Deputy Dylan Pickle and another deputy were conducting a roadside safety checkpoint when they were struck by a vehicle. Pickle was rushed to a Tupelo hospital where he would later pass away.

The Monroe Journal reports that the other deputy underwent surgery for a broken leg.

No additional details regarding the incident have been released at this time.
