Monroe County preparing for return of ‘American Idol’ contestant Colin Stough

Monroe County is preparing for the homecoming of American Idol contestant Colin Stough.

Stough, who advanced to the competition’s top 3 on Sunday night, has a full slate of events celebrating his Idol run set for Tuesday with the first being at his alma mater, Hatley High School, at 1 p.m.

Following the students and staff-only rally at Hatley High, the celebration will open to the public with a parade down Main Street in Amory at 4 p.m. Following the parade, Stough will take the stage in a free concert at 5:30 p.m. at the Hatley football stadium.

Stough, 18, initially caught the attention of fans across the nation with his rendition of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man during auditions. Since, he has worked with Idol’s vocal coaches and judges to transform into one of this season’s biggest stars.

American Idol will return Monday night at 9/8c with a short “Journey to the Finale” episode before this year’s winner being declared on Sunday, May 21.
