Officials in Mississippi provided another update after a tornadoes broke out in the southern part of the state last week, confirming Tuesday that more than 400 homes and businesses were damaged.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said in a release that eight tornadoes are now confirmed to have touched down between May 6 and 7. The previous number was seven, according to the National Weather Service.
“This includes an EF-3 tornado that was over a mile wide and was on the ground for 69.8 miles from Wilkinson County to Lawrence County, an EF-2 tornado that touched down in Lamar County, and an additional four EF-1 tornadoes and two EF-0 tornadoes impacted the state,” the release reads.
As for damage, MEMA teams remain assessing impacted areas but have received reports of damage to 403 homes and 21 businesses. Of the homes affected, 78 were destroyed and 77 sustained major damage. Those figures are subject to change as further assessments are conducted, MEMA noted.

MEMA previously confirmed 26 people were injured during the outbreak. No deaths have been reported.

- Franklin: 13 homes, 2 businesses
- Forrest: 2 homes
- Jefferson Davis: 5 homes
- Lamar: 82 homes, 13 businesses
- Lawrence: 14 homes
- Lincoln: 281 homes, 6 businesses, 8 farm buildings
- Marion: 3 homes
- Wilkinson: 3 homes, 2 farm buildings
