A homegrown Hollywood icon who has become one of the biggest names in the film industry will be making a stop in Jackson next month.
Morgan Freeman, the decorated actor, producer, and narrator raised in the Mississippi Delta, is listed as a featured guest at the upcoming “Big Voices for Little Children” luncheon. The inaugural event, serving as a fundraiser for the Mississippi Early Learning Alliance’s (MELA) campaign to provide resources to children statewide, will be held at the Two Mississippi Museums on Aug. 12 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
At the luncheon, Freeman will recount his upbringing in the Magnolia State while also expounding on his dedication to ensuring that Mississippi’s future is bright. He’s the founder and angel investor behind MELA.
“Guests will enjoy a delicious seated luncheon, hear Mr. Freeman share stories of his early years in Mississippi, and his commitment to our state’s future during a fireside chat,” a portion of a release from MELA reads. “Afterwards, attendees will learn how MELA is advancing programs and policies that support infant and toddler education, care, well-being, and health.”
