MSDH confirms 669 new COVID-19 cases, 28 deaths

While the number remains relatively low compared to the post-holiday surge, the Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting its highest case total of the week. 

The latest report of 669 new COVID-19 cases brings the state’s total up to 291,891. With the confirmation of *28 additional deaths, 6,605 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus. 

*MSDH Note: 12 COVID-19 related deaths occurred between January 14 and February 16, identified from death certificate reports.

Overall hospitalizations remain around the 500 mark in the latest MSDH data. 

As Mississippi surpasses 500,000 administered doses of the vaccine, eligibility has now been expanded to include teachers and first responders.
