The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 684 new cases of COVID-19.

The latest report brings the state’s total up to 289,398. With the confirmation of *23 additional deaths, 6,524 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus.

*MSDH Note: 17 COVID-19 related deaths occurred between December 12 and February 15, identified from death certificate reports.

Overall hospitalizations continue on a downward trend, dropping below 570.

Due to the winter weather, vaccinations have slowed this week yet a little less than 450,000 total doses have been administered. A spokeswoman from the MSDH stated that while most of the state-run sites remaining closed over the last three days, none of the state’s doses will expire after “we have had several public health nurses step up and get shots in arms before dose expiration.”
