MSDH reports 4,017 new COVID-19 cases from the weekend

On Tuesday, the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) confirmed 4,017 new cases of COVID-19.

The four-day update brings the state’s total number of recorded cases since the onset of the pandemic to 904,905. With eight additional deaths, 12,766 Mississippians have now passed away as a result of the virus. Additionally, there are currently 177 ongoing outbreaks in long-term care facilities.

Mississippi is currently averaging 1,228 daily cases, a 4% increase from two weeks ago. As of August 15, 1,560,456 Mississippians were fully vaccinated.

Editor’s note: The Mississippi State Department of Health announced on Monday that they will no longer be reporting COVID-19 numbers on a daily basis. Rather, a weekly report will be released every Tuesday.
