The Mississippi State Department of Health, in collaboration with the Diabetes Prevention and Control Program, will soon be hosting its second annual State Employee Wellness Expo.
On Thursday, those employed by the state are invited to the Mississippi Trade Mart in Jackson. The event, which will run from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., is designed to promote health, wellness, and connection among state employees.
“This year’s expo promises a wide variety of engaging and informative activities,” said Dr. Dan Edney, who serves as executive director of MSDH and state health officer. “I encourage all state employees to join us in this exchange to join us in this exciting endeavor. Together, we can take significant strides toward improving the health and well-being of our state workforce. We look forward to seeing you there.”
Participants will be able to enjoy an array of interactive activities, demonstrations, and discussions. The schedule includes fitness and yoga demonstrations, mental health discussions, stress management exercises, healthy cooking demonstrations, massages, and health screenings for chiropractic, A1C, glucose, blood pressure, and oral health will also be available.
Vendors will also be on site to share resources on state employee healthcare benefits.
The city of Jackson’s mayor-elect, outgoing state Sen. John Horhn, will deliver the welcome address. Rachel S. Tyrone, an assistant professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, will deliver the keynote address.
