A baseball coaching legend in the Magnolia State will be honored by the Mississippi Mud Monsters during the club’s first-ever bobblehead giveaway.
Mud Monsters officials announced that on Thursday, July 31, a limited amount of fans will be able to get their hands on a Hill Denson bobblehead.
It will be a Southern Miss-centric celebration honoring Denson, the longtime Golden Eagle head coach whose name the program’s baseball field is named after. The Bay Springs native stacked 468 victories and 12 straight winning seasons across 14 campaigns at the helm in Hattiesburg. The Mississippi Sports Hall of Famer totaled 1,273 across his full career.
Denson also led Belhaven baseball for more than two decades, the final span that included many home games at Trustmark Park that is now home to both the Blazers and Mud Monsters.
“Coach Denson didn’t just rack up 1,273 wins — he put Southern Miss on the national baseball map, inspired generations of players, and collected enough Hall of Fame inductions to need his own wing,” the Mud Monsters said in a press release. “From Hill Denson Field in Hattiesburg to the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, his legacy is legendary — and now, for the first time, fans can take it home in bobble form.”
The bobbleheads will be available through two special ticket packages: a $25 package that includes a game ticket and bobblehead, or a $75 package that includes a ticket, bobblehead, and all-you-can-eat ballpark fare.
450 of the collectibles bearing Denson’s likeness will be available.
