A multi-agency effort led to the recovery of a body from the Mississippi River over the weekend.
First responders from multiple agencies responded to the scene Saturday, according to the Coahoma County Fire Department. Officials did not disclose the exact location along the river where the body was recovered.
Authorities also have not released any identifying information about the individual. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and how the body came to be in the river.
Coahoma County firefighters worked alongside personnel from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the Helena (Ark.) Fire Department, the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office, the Phillips County (Ark.) Sheriff’s Office, Mississippi Task Force 1, and DeSoto County Emergency Services.
“Through the combined efforts of all responding agencies, resources and personnel were effectively coordinated to safely conduct recovery operations,” the Coahoma County Fire Department’s public information officer wrote on Facebook. “CCFD extends its appreciation to all agencies involved for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to serving our communities during difficult incidents such as these.”
