A convicted murderer who escaped from the Mississippi State Penitentiary has been captured, according to officials.
Nevin Whetstone, 71, was taken into custody Friday afternoon several miles west of the prison in Sunflower County. He had escaped through a back gate on Tuesday, with authorities asking the public to be on the lookout for the “dangerous” inmate.

This wasn’t the first time Whetstone had escaped from prison. In 1991, he had an additional year tacked on to his life sentence for breaking free from the jail yard. He was originally sentenced in 1983 for capital murder in Lee County.
