A domestic violence incident turned deadly for the suspect in Natchez on Sunday.
According to officials, officers with the Natchez Police Department responded to Oak Ridge Manor Apartments early Sunday morning to a domestic violence call. Upon arrival, they found the victim with visible injuries from the reported assault.
Suspect Nicholas Jarrell was not at the scene, having left the residence before officers arrived. They promptly began searching the area for him. Shortly after the Natchez Police officers left in search, Jarrell reportedly returned to the victim’s apartment and forcibly entered the residence.
A second altercation then took place inside the apartment, leading to the suspect sustaining a stab wound to the chest. Officers returned to the scene along with emergency medical personnel, but despite lifesaving efforts, Jarrell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Afterward, officers transported the victim to the Natchez Police Department for further assistance and an interview regarding the incident. During the ongoing investigation, investigators processed the scene and interviewed witnesses.
“At this time, the Natchez Police Department is not releasing the identity of the victim or the specific apartment number in order to protect the victim’s privacy and the integrity of the ongoing investigation,” the Natchez Police Department wrote in a release. “This case remains under active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.”
