After a 40-22 win by the Philadelphia Eagles over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, the New Orleans Saints have hired the winning offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore, as the organization’s 19th head coach.
Moore, a 13-year NFL veteran as both a player and coach, played quarterback for six seasons (2012-17) and entered the coaching ranks in 2018, serving as an offensive coordinator for the past six campaigns. Moore comes to New Orleans, as announced by the Saints on Tuesday, after serving as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator for the franchise’s wildly successful 2024-25 campaign.
“I would like to welcome Kellen Moore and his family to New Orleans,” Saints Executive Vice President and General Manager Mickey Loomis said. “He is an outstanding communicator with the ability to lead people and has a clear vision for this football team. Through this head coaching search, we had the opportunity to meet with several impressive candidates and I thank them for their hard work and preparation in this process.”
The 36-year-old Moore will join an organization that has been floundering since the retirement of quarterback Drew Brees and subsequent departure of Super Bowl-winning coach Sean Payton. Since Brees hung up the cleats, the team has compiled a 30-38 record, including their worst season in 20 years in 2025.
In 2024, Moore was a key piece of a coaching staff that led the Eagles to a 14-3 record, an NFC East Division title, and the conference’s No. 2 playoff seed, culminating in a Super Bowl LIX championship at the Caesars Superdome. Philadelphia rushed for a team single-season record 3,048 yards (sixth-best in NFL history) and finished second in the league in rushing yards per game (179.3).
The 2024 Eagles were only the second team in NFL history to rush for 3,000-plus yards and at least 25 touchdowns, largely as a result of running back Saquan Barkley’s prolific year.
In four seasons as offensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys (2019-22), Moore’s unit ranked second in the NFL in total offense (391.0 net yards per game) and scoring (27.7 points per game). The Dallas offense was also the NFL’s fourth-best passing offense (264.4 net yards per game) and ranked seventh in rushing offense (126.6 yards per game) over that span.
After a standout collegiate career at Boise State, Moore had a six-year career as a practice squad or reserve QB with Detroit (2012-2014) and Dallas (2015-2017). He played in just three regular-season games, all with the Cowboys in 2015.
Moore first moved into coaching in 2018 as a quarterbacks coach for the Cowboys, earning a promotion to offensive coordinator in 2019. He left Dallas to join the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023 before moving to Philadelphia in 2024.
A native of Prosser, Wash., Moore finished his playing days at Boise State with a record of 50-3, the most wins by a quarterback in NCAA history.
“At the start of the interview process, it was important to find a head coach who was the right fit for the New Orleans Saints organization,” franchise owner Gayle Benson said. “Through the search process, it became clear that Kellen is the right person to help us re-establish a winning program and culture that our fans are accustomed to and have come to expect.”
