Less than a year after wrapping up his college days in Oxford, former Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart is poised to make his first career NFL start.
The rookie will commandeer the New York Giants’ offense in a week-four matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday at noon, per a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Head coach Brian Daboll’s anticipated shakeup behind center comes after veteran Russell Wilson’s efforts yielded three straight losses, two of which came against divisional opponents, to open the 2025 season.
Dart, who was selected by the franchise in the first round of the NFL Draft, galvanized the New York fanbase in the preseason and quickly became a hot commodity among Giant faithful. The Ole Miss standout completed 32 of 47 passes for 372 passing yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions through three preseason games, giving the franchise a sneak peek at what the future might entail.
Though Daboll did not commit to a starting signal caller during Monday’s press conference, the tide has seemingly turned in Dart’s favor. Whether or not the impending change stems from concerns that he may need to revamp his image to avoid a spot on the hot seat or cries from the fanbase to give the rookie a chance to showcase his talents, Daboll is slated to put Dart in control of his offense versus a red-hot Chargers team.
No stranger to the big stage, Dart’s collegiate career featured high-profile wins over a Jayden Daniels-led LSU squad, a New Year’s Six bowl victory over Penn State, and a top-five home win against Georgia.
