Officials in Lafayette County are investigating the death of an inmate.
Authorities identified the deceased as John Halley Jr. According to local law enforcement, deputies found Halley unresponsive in his cell during a routine check shortly after midnight on Wednesday.
Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene after life-saving measures were attempted. No foul play is suspected at this time, but an autopsy conducted by the state medical examiner’s office will determine the inmate’s cause of death.
