No-test time for expired driver’s licenses could be extended

A bill is heading to the desk of Governor Tate Reeves that would extend the period to renew a driver’s license without having to take a test.

House Bill 971, if signed into law, will allow for a license to be expired for up to five years before a person would have to take a test to renew it. The current time period for a test to be required after a license expiration is 18 months.

That’s not all it would do though.

Additionally, HB 971 would prohibit anyone who has been convicted of a trafficking crime under the Mississippi Human Trafficking Act or under federal law from driving a commercial vehicle.

The bill also requires the Mississippi Department of Public Safety to be responsible “for regulating a digital wallet for state agency credentials.”
