The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assessing an officer-involved shooting in Hattiesburg that left a suspect critically injured.
Department of Public Safety officials report that law enforcement responded to a call for service regarding a “suspicious person” on Timothy Lane on Wednesday morning.
Upon arrival at the scene, police allege that the unidentified subject brandished a firearm, prompting an exchange of gunfire.
The suspect was struck at the scene and was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. No officers were injured in the crossfire.
State officials will investigate the incident and report findings to the Mississippi Attorney General’s office.
