The Mississippi legislature has passed a resolution honoring the University of Mississippi baseball team as the 2022 national champions.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 520, which was authored by Ole Miss graduate Senator Walter Michel of Ridgeland, recently made it through both chambers with unanimous votes.

“The Rebels’ College World Series national championship was a reminder for all to never give up,” Michel said. “They were one of the last of the 64 teams invited to the tournament and had to play every game on the road. The Rebs got hot, and by the time they made it to the championship series, 20,000 Rebel fans provided Ole Miss the home field advantage in Omaha to win it all. Congratulations to the 2022 College World Series national champions.”

The team was also recognized by Congress back in July when Mississippi delegation members introduced companion resolutions in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate.

“The Ole Miss Rebels made our state proud with a display of incredible talent and sportsmanship on the diamond as they fought to be national champions,” Congressman Michael Guest said at the time. “These young men earned this title, and I commend them on an incredible performance that will be remembered for many years to come.”

Last June, Ole Miss defeated Oklahoma in the College World Series finals to secure the program’s first-ever national championship. The amazing run came after the Rebels were the last at-large team invited to the NCAA Tournament.

Ole Miss begins the 2023 season this Friday, Feb. 17 against Delaware in Oxford.
