Ole Miss Basketball got a significant boost to its front court on Wednesday evening when 2020 forward Shon Robinson announced he is reclassifying and headed to campus for the 2019 school year.
The 6-foot-11 forward from Chicago was thought to be the centerpiece of the Rebels’ 2020 signing class, one that could potentially include the likes of four-star Hundington Prep power forward Jaemyn Brakefield, who Ole Miss is believed to be firmly in the mix for. Rumblings of Robinson’s reclassification went on throughout the summer leading up to Wednesday’s announcement.
Robinson, who had a litany of offers from schools like Kansas State, Marquette, Iowa, Xavier, Wisconsin, Syracuse and Florida among others, moved to Edueprize, Arizona as a sophomore in high school. Robinson is a lanky prospect with elite athleticism. His arrival in Oxford is another phase to the front court overhaul Kermit Davis and his staff have orchestrated this offseason. The Rebels were an NCAA Tournament team in 2018 despite being weak in the post and having virtually no depth. Davis has changed that in a single offseason with the arrivals of Khadim Sy and Sammy Hunter to complement K.J. Buffen and Carlos Curry. Toss in athletic wings Blake Hinson and Luis Rodriguez and Ole Miss boasts an unrecognizably different and versatile front court from a year ago. Davis and his staff have drastically elevated the talent level on the roster from when it took the reins to the program 16 months ago.

The move puts the Rebels at their full allotment of scholarships for the year.
While it remains to be seen what type of role Robinson will have on the court in 2019, he will undoubtedly be an impact player in Davis’ program for the next couple of years.
