Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy’s showing on the field this past Saturday did not just yield his team a road victory over an SEC opponent. It also earned him national recognition from a prestigious outlet.
Lacy, the SEC’s leading rusher through the first two games of the 2025 season, earned the Doak Walker National Player of the Week honor after an impressive outing against Kentucky over the weekend. The Missouri transfer logged 138 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries in the 30-23 victory. He has amassed 246 yards and four scores altogether in the first two contests.
The weekly honor Lacy received leads up to the nation’s top running back being recognized as the best in his position at the end of the season. The award is named after the legendary Doak Walker, a three-time All-American at SMU.

The Rebels’ early success in the ground attack has given fans reasonable hope, especially after last season’s struggle to run the football. With a young quarterback in Austin Simmons, who has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns in his first two starts, Lane Kiffin’s offense will need a Lacy-led running back stable to help take some of the pressure off of the sophomore signal caller.
No. 17 Ole Miss (2-0, 1-0 SEC) will return to the gridiron on Saturday in a stripe-out game against Arkansas. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT. ESPN and participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations will air the conference showdown.
