Ole Miss outfielder Kemp Alderman was selected by the Miami Marlins with the No. 47 overall pick in the MLB Draft Sunday night.

The Decatur native began his tenure in Oxford as a designated hitter, then quickly worked his way into a permanent defensive role in the outfield, at catcher, and on the mound a few times.

Alderman was most notorious for his powerful bat and high exit velocities, but he was also an effective base-hitter who led the Rebels in on-base percentage and games with multiple RBIs this past season.

The slugger had a strong finish to his time in Oxford in 2023 by winning the Ferris Trophy and earning a second-team All-SEC honor off the heels of posting an impressive .376 batting average with 80 hits and 19 home runs.

Alderman will now take his talents to South Beach and work to find a utility role with the Marlins.
